The need to consider institutional arrangements and culture in property
management as a key to sustainable development
Being part of resource
management, the professional arena of property management is surely significant
in making a contribution to “sustainable development” or “sustainability”. In
the literature on sustainable development, there has been little rigorous
analysis of the factors of institutional arrangements or culture or the
specificities of property management as a significant link in resource use,
conservation and enhancement.
Property Management intends to publish a special issue with
the theme “Institutions, Culture and Sustainable Development” in June 2006 with
a view to promote interdisciplinary research on sustainability and property
management.
The following categories of
articles are most appropriate for this special issue:
1.
Conceptual and theoretical analysis of the
relationship property management and sustainability in terms of institutional
designs and/or cultural factors as supported by case studies or empirical data.
2.
Empirical or analytical research on the
relationship between institutional and/or cultural factors and sustainability
in property management on the one hand and the resultant policy and practical
implications for promoting sustainability in property management on the other.
3.
Research on the perceptions of sustainability by
property managers and/or property users and the relationship of these
perceptions on the choice of institutional arrangements for property
management.
4.
Literature review on the role of institutions
and/or culture in property management with insights for future developments and
/or research agenda.
5. Analysis
of the role of environmental auditing in property management as supported by
real life examples together with practical and / or policy implications.
6. Conceptual, theoretical or empirical analysis
of the relationship between utilization of natural resources and institutional
arrangements for property management.
